Summary:
Our group chose the Promethean Interactive Whiteboard so a teacher has an easier time going faster and smoother through their lessons because they no longer have to write everything on the board over and over. The above IWB comes with software to assist preplanning lessons where a teacher can set up a preset powerpoint that can be written on during class.
Seeing how there are 5 outdated computers in the classroom, they need to be updated with the current software systems. One important software program would be Microsoft Office 2010 which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. The plan would be to put this program on the 5 computers and the Teacher's computer. Students need the ability to get computer skills along with programs such as these. Microsoft Word is used very often in the upcoming years for students (especially in high school and college). They need much experience in these programs to succeed in their future academic work. (Morgan)
Although, instead of just updating Microsoft Office, we propose that the old computers be replaced with new desktops, as well. Newer computers will be able to run faster and handle more software and computer applications. They come with a Windows 7 operating system and will help create an eaisier, smoother, and more streamlined learning experience for students. (Andrew Lindner)
We would also purchase a Brother Professional Inkjet Printer that will be used for all classroom needs. If printing doesn't come back from the county center with enough copies or if we needed to print, copy, scan, or fax something, we would be able to without having to leave our classroom. Also, it is a wireless printer, so all computers in the classroom will have access to use this printer. (Jaclyn Termini)
The program Adventure Workshop seems to be the best program for the price because it allows for the kids to have fun while learning. It is just making education fun and interesting. The fact that it is from 1st-3rd grade allows it to be used for pretty much all students, no matter what their level in 3rd grade. (Nicole Cooper)
An ELMO is a great tool in any classroom because it is similar to an overhead projector but a teacher is not limited to only using transparencies. One of the ways it would be used would be as a way for the teacher to show step by step solutions to math problems written on a piece of paper. This is much easier for the teacher because they can write much more easily on paper and do not have to worry about writing on a board later to erase the problem when there is no more room. Another way it could be used is by doing peer evaluations of student essays. The names on the essays would be covered and students will be able to see other students' works to help there own writing and analyzing abilities.
